Analyzing the Defeat in Maine
Maine was the latest in dozens of referendum defeats for the LGBT community.
But it was eminently winnable. Unlike in many other campaigns, our side had a decisive 2-1 fundraising advantage. The examples of marriage equality not leading to the sky falling in could be seen in next door Canada and nearby Massachusetts. Yet we still lost.
