Cardinal George vs. Equal Rights
With the recent victories for equal marriage rights in California and Washington state, full marriage rights for same-sex couples is finally on the legislative agenda in Springfield.
But standing in the way is Chicago’s Cardinal Francis George, who can be expected do his best to stop passage of any pro-LGBT legislation.
To get equal marriage, Illinois’s LGBT community can choose to follow the failed example of California in 2008, which ignored the behind-the-scenes organizing of the Mormon Church leadership until it was too late, or we can proactively take on our opponents like Cardinal George, dragging his bigotry out of the closet for all to see.
